vegan-mind-tricks asked: I'm vegan, age 34, married and raising a baby (also vegan) age two weeks, with my wife (also vegan) age 31. The trouble is that we live in France, where we (1) don't know anyone, (2) don't know any vegans, and (3) the culture is amazingly hostile to anything like veganism. So… we're coping… or trying to… and thinking about what the next 10 years will look like for our kid(s) and where/how we'll make a life. I don't lie about it: we're isolated, and we use the internet to try to connect. So: hi.
Hello back! We have a 4 and 6 year old. When I visited France awhile back, it was more of a challenge to find vegan food than in the UK. It sounds like that has not changed much.
Feel free to drop me a line any time. You are not alone. There are a lot of vegan parents out there, you just have to look. When my baby was about the same age, I hopped online and started searching for other families in our area. We ended up starting a vegan parenting group, which has been fantastic.
Trying searching for a version of “Meet-up” in France to see if a vegan meet-up group exists. If not, you could start one. Another great way to locate other families is through local animal rights groups or vegan potlucks. Our Vegkins group is sponsored by the Animal Rights Coalition, and they are always sending new families our way.
If you are on FB, there are a lot of family/parenting pages and groups. On my blog’s page, I’ve liked a ton of different vegan family pages. Click on the page like section, and you can find a bunch of them. https://www.facebook.com/GrowingUpVeg
I’m always here to chat about vegan parenting. It is so nice to hear from you!
